God and Church: Consumer Choice?
In today's New York Times (click the title to access), there is a great op-ed about clergy burnout and the consumer driven expectations of the modern parishioner. The article raises a number of good questions: Is Church really a totally consumer driven reality today? Are parishioners consumers who only want their needs to be met? Does the ideal of free markets and consumer choice run so deep that God, let alone the Church, has become just another on demand choice or stock option?
